Camila Alves, talking about her husband, Matthew McConaughey and the romantic roles that he’s played, said “Sometimes I’m like, ‘Can we bring that guy home for a little bit?'” well it turns out he is a sweetheart. Even though he may not be the romantic hero form a movie, he does shower his wife with a lot of love and affection.
According to Us Weekly, it was love at first sight when Matthew McConaughey laid eyes on her in 2006. “When I saw the woman who is now my wife, I was at a club making margaritas at a table with friends. When she walked in wearing this aqua dress, I went, ‘Whoa, what is that?’ I didn’t say, ‘Who is that?'” he told Playboy, according to Martha Stewart Weddings.
He added, “Grace, identity, constitution, beauty—where’s that from? What is that? As soon as she caught my eye, a little voice goes in my head: ‘This is not the kind of woman you call across the room. Boy, get your ass out of that chair.'” It took him some time before she finally agreed to go on a date with hem. That is when he cooked for her, as reported by Nicki Swift. It resulted in the duo feeling a strong connection.
Camila was not exactly hyped about the idea of marriage. But when she knew that she has found the right man, she decided it was worth it.
“I think it’s something that we evolved to,” she told Access, as reported by People. “I was never the girl that grew up saying I want to get married. I actually told my parents to not expect me to get married.”
They said their vows in 2012.
“In the end, our understanding was, Let’s go make a covenant, with you, me, and God,” he told GQ. “And let’s understand that this is not a destination, this is the beginning of an adventure that we’re taking together.”
The couple has three children together, Levi, Vida, and Livingston. He tries to be the perfect father and the perfect husband. He makes her feel special by showing how much he loves her.
He told Today, “I don’t have a certain thing I buy her. An earnest handwritten note, that she knows I sat down and took some time and has some poetry to it, that’s worth more than whatever retail I paid for something.”
For him, family comes first.
“Friday night’s the no-curfew night. It’s pizza night, it’s a movie night, it’s ‘all the kids can sleep with Mama and Papa night,’” he said. “That night can go late. Sometimes we have to lie about the time and say it’s midnight when it’s really 10 ’cause we can tell it’s gonna go to 2.”
They love spending time together. Even with very busy schedules, they try to make it work. “We cook together. Even if I’m running late from work I say, ‘We’re having a late dinner,’” Camila Alves said. “Does it happen every single day of the week? No, but it happens a lot.”
They also steal a romantic moment for themselves every once in a while. “[We do] a lot of staying at home, cooking together or getting a hotel room that is 10 minutes away from the house,” she said. ‘Just the fact that you don’t have to wake up to kids screaming for help with something — it already does something to a mom’s brain.”
This love is truly the fairy tale ending we all want. He said, “I have been very faithful to my wife, very selfishly. I like being under her spell. I don’t want to break that spell.”
