We all have the life-long dream of finding the one. But it seems very hard to find that so-called soul mate, the one. Well, the problem is, when you are looking for a long term relationship, it is hard to decide who will be long term relationship material and who won’t. It is really difficult to tell if it would be worth spending time with somebody.

If you have ever found yourself in such a situation, you are in the right place. Here are six signs that will tell you if it is worth spending time on if your partner is a keeper.

#1. You share common interests.

Chances are that you already have a common interest. Otherwise, you would not have met. But, the thing is, you need to make sure that there are more. It is really difficult to spend time with somebody if you do not have any common interests. If the two of you cannot enjoy at least a few things together, you will find yourselves struggling to find time for each other soon enough.

#2. They know and accept their flaws.

Self-awareness is very important in a relationship. You have to make sure that your partner is aware of their own flaws, and that they accept them. There is nothing worse than spending time with someone who is stuck in the past, who is constantly focusing on what they cannot do. So make sure that your partner is aware of their flaws and that they focus on the positive things in life.

#3. They can make you laugh.

Finding a partner who can make you laugh is very important. If there is no laughter in your relationship, chances are that it might get boring fast enough. However, it is hard to find someone who can make you laugh when you are stressed, but if you do, then you have got yourself a keeper.

#4. They are different enough.

Yes, you need a partner with whom you share common interests. But you also need to make sure that they are different from you. Having someone in your life who challenges you to try new things keeps the relationship exciting. If you are dating someone exactly like you, there is no promise for an existing future.

#5. They are supportive but independent.

They support you, your career and your goals. But they also have their independence.  It’s okay to be with someone who has their own hopes and dreams independent of your own. If it becomes a problem, it is only when and if they crush your dreams to reach their own dreams.

#6. They communicate.

Communication is the most important thing in any relationship. It is the key. Being able to express one’s emotions is hard, and that is why you need to practice whenever you get a chance.
