All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my mother.” – Abraham Lincoln
We owe it all to our parents. They are the ones who raised us, they are the ones who took care of us, and they are the ones who stood by us. As we grow older, we gradually realize that our parents grow old too. But it is very hard to accept this change. Most of the time we don’t even notice this change. Of course, none of us want to see our dear mothers having a wrinkled face or our fathers losing the strength we so admired.
But the truth is, they are changing; they are getting old and there is nothing we can do to stop this ageing process.
But there is one thing we can do. We can treat the people who raised us with respect, love, appreciation, and acknowledgment.
They neglected their own wellbeing for the sake of us. They always chose us before themselves. They committed to us and took all our troubles without hesitating. And that is why they deserve our respect and gratitude, our love and affection.
We are who we are today only because of our parents. They are the ones who made us into these capable and strong adults. And that is why we should show them that their efforts are worth it. That is why we should always put them first and take care of them with all we have. We should always keep in touch with them and make time for them, no matter how busy our lives might get.
We might not fully realize this, but the rough reality is that none of us is going to last forever. But our love can.
Because the love our parents gave us is unconditional and irrevocable. It cannot be put into words. It cannot be expressed in verse. And now it is our time to show them the same kind of love. Yes, it is true that they will not be around till the end of time; but we can show how much we love them right now when we have time.
So call your parents. Visit them when you have a minute to spare. Bring their favorite dish; make them their favorite soup. It will make them extremely happy. And that is not all, it will be good for your soul too. You will feel very much satisfied.
There is nothing more precious in this world than spending time with the people you love and making them happy.
