We all are not born alike. Some of us are born to rich families with several inborn talents but some are not like that. Some people face several complexities from birth and Riley is also a kid who was born with such difficulty. He was a kid with Down-Syndrome and when he was born, his parents were worried that he would be bullied by others in the future.
His father Stuart Baxter says that “After we were told he had Down syndrome I cried, not because I would love him any less, but just knowing how cruel the world can be. That was the first thing that went through my mind but, my perceptions were wrong and how wrong I was,” he added.
They nicknamed him ‘Smiley Riley’ as he bought smiles to everyone’s face from his very young days. Stuart says that “We have called him ‘Smiley Riley’ from a young age because he makes people happy, and seeing his smile gives people a pick-me-up on a bad day”.
His beautiful personality caught the attention of many including the model Scouts and was fortunate enough to get himself a modeling contract at 4-years of age. Now he has already appeared in advertisements for big UK brand Mothercare and his friends at school are already treating him as a huge stat!
His proud dad Stuart says that, “there was the fear of the unknown and why this had happened to us, but if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn’t have been upset at all”.
However, his muscles are not as strong as that of his friends which prevents him from engaging in certain physical activities like others of his age. He also faces many challenges in communicating in primarily non-verbal ways. but, he is excelled in sign language which helps him to communicate easily with his friends.
There is no doubt that Riley’s story will surely change your attitude about kids with Down-Syndrome. They also are like us and this is the high time to treat them right!
